Paul Quincy Adams

John Quincy Adams, né le 11 juillet 1767 à Braintree, Massachusetts, a été le sixième président des États-Unis (1825-1829). Fils du second président, John Adams, il accompagne son père venu négocier des traités de paix et de commerce auprès des cours européennes dont la France et la Grande-Bretagne. John Adams et sa famille résident pendant près d'un an dans l'Hôtel Antier, à Auteuil, où une plaque commémore le séjour des deux futurs présidents. Il est mort 23 février 1848 à Washington, D.C.

John Quincy Adams, born 11 July 1767 in Braintree, Massachusetts, was the 6th President of the United States (1825-1829). His father, one of the key Founding Fathers of the United States, future second president John Adams, was in Paris in 1784-1785, along with Jefferson and Franklin, being the
architects of far-going trade relations between the United States and Prussia. A plaque in the Auteuil neighbourhood reminds us that Adams and his family lived there at the time. John Quincy Adams died 23 February 1848 in Washington, D.C.

Albert Ier de Monaco

Albert Ier de Monaco, "le Prince navigateur", est mort à Paris le 26 juin 1922. Il y était né le 13 novembre 1848. Il fut prince régnant de la Principauté de Monaco du 10 septembre 1889 à sa mort. En 1906, après des années de recherches et d'expéditions océanographiques où il est accompagné par de nombreux scientifiques, il crée la Fondation Albert Ier, connue sous le nom d'Institut océanographique, rue Saint-Jacques à Paris.
 
A Monaco, il avait fondé en 1899 l'Institut océanographique et le Musée océanographique, avec musée, laboratoires, collections de pièces rapportées de ses explorations, aquariums de faune et de flore des fonds sous marin de la Méditerranée, librairie scientifique, archives ...

Albert I, Prince of Monaco, died in Paris, on 26 June 1922. He was born there on 13 November 1848. He reigned over Monaco from 10 September 1889 to his death. He was only 22 years old when he began to develop an interest in the then relatively new science of oceanography. After several years of study, Albert showed his ingenuity by devising a number of techniques and instruments used for measurement and exploration.  He organized, and took part in, numerous scietific expeditions.
 
He founded the Oceanographic Institute in Paris in 1906, where an inscription bears his name.
